Lt. Col. Mathew Wiskow, Minnesota Wing’s Group 4 commander, presented certificates and ribbons to two cadets during a ceremony May 9 at the Mankato Regional Airport.
Cadets Hunter Brindley and Tanner Johnson of the Minnesota Wing’s Mankato Composite Squadron pinned on their new rank after earning the Gen. Billy Mitchell Award.
To earn the Mitchell Award, cadets must pass comprehensive leadership and aerospace exams as well as a rigorous physical fitness test. They must complete an encampment, a military-style camp. In addition, to move into the cadet officer ranks, with the achievement of the Mitchell Award, cadets enter into the officer phase of cadet leadership.
Mitchell Award recipients are eligible for advanced placement in the grade of E-3 (Airman First Class) should they choose to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. They are also eligible for advanced credit in the Air Force ROTC program.
