On 3 Dec 2011, five Mankato Cadets participated in round 2 of the national CyberPatriot competition. Five of Mankato’s cadets also competed against 610 other teams in round one at the end of October. The cadets found and corrected 80% of the problems on the competition system. Only 57 teams had a better score for round one. After combining the scores from round one and two, the top 36 will compete in round three.
CyberPatriot is a unique national cybersecurity competition produced by the Air Force Association (AFA), a nonprofit organization headquartered near Washington, D.C. Its structure provides students hands-on learning about the cybersecurity field while competing virtually against their peers.
“CyberPatriot was designed to expose students to the fascinating field of cybersecurity in a fun environment and motivate them to consider becoming the cyber defenders our nation needs,” said Bernie Skoch, CyberPatriot Commissioner. “CyberPatriot is playing a role in developing more cyber-savvy citizens in this country, truly engaging students with hands-on learning toward real-world challenges”
